I need help troubleshooting telephone line problems with my RACO autodialer.
1. Test with a plain old telephone:
RACO autodialers act like a plain old telephone, test the phone line by:
- Plug a plain old telephone into the same jack that the autodialer would use.
- Try calling into the number and try calling out to the numbers you want the autodialer to call.
- If the plain old telephone can not complete the call or answer, neither will the autodialer.
- If you have to dial 9 to get an outside line, or use a 1 or an area code, so does the autodialer.
2. Test whether the connection is complete to the dialer:
Occasionally the autodialer phone cable is bad. We need to make sure the connection is complete all the way to the main board of the dialer.
- The quickest test on a Verbatim or Catalyst autodialer is to press the Dial Out button on the keypad.
- A dial tone indicates a good connection.
- A voltage measurement can also be helpful.
- You should get about 50vdc between the red and green wires with the phone line connected and the autodialer off or in the normal position.
- More than a volt or two off from this would indicate a problem, possibly with the phone line.
- Disconnect the wires from the unit and read the voltage again.
- If it is still off, call the phone company. If it improves, call RACO.
3. Staticky phone line:
A connection with a lot of static will interfere with SCADA communications, and can make a normal audio message unintelligible.
- Begin with Test #1 above.
- If you hear static on the plain old telephone, contact the phone company to check out the line.
- If it clears up, call RACO for a return authorization (you will need the serial number), as you probably have sustained a lightning hit over the phone line.
Note: If these tests dont resolve the phone line problem, call RACO Support at 1-800-449-4539 for further instructions. Be sure to have the serial number of your unit when you call.
